Happily Ever After Welcome to the Happily Ever After Fiction Database. The purpose of this project is to solicit recommendations of science fiction and fantasy versions of fairy tale stories from readers and writers; to assist me in selecting the contents of a reprint anthology I'm assembling for Night Shade Books. Typically I'm thinking of your standard European fairy tales (e.g., Cinderella, Snow White, Rumpelstilskin, The Little Mermaid, Hansel and Gretel, and so on) but I would love to get recommendations on lesser-known fairy tales, as well as fairy tales from other countries/continents. I will need English-language material, however. Enter as much information about the work as you know. If all you know is the author and title, that's fine. When denoting the length of the story, if you don't know if it's a novella, novelette, or short story, just mark short fiction (this being the generic catch-all for those three categories). If you know the exact word count, feel free to select "Other" and enter the word count there. I've inserted a few entries in the database myself to serve as examples. If you have any questions about using the database, please don't hesitate to email me. Writers: You're welcome to recommend your own work. You may also contact me via email to send me a copy. You don't need to query me first; feel free to just send the stories along in RTF format. Please include "Happily Ever After Fiction" in the subject line, along with your name and/or the name of your story. (Note that these stories should have been previously published, since this is a reprint anthology.) I've looked through the excellent Datlow/Windling anthologies, but feel free to recommend stories from those, too. I'd like to see your recommendations by the end of December, 2009.
